Terms of Service

GreatOak provides personal AI companions — digital partners that remember your conversations, learn your preferences, and help with everyday tasks. Your Companion is yours alone. No one else can access your conversations.

GreatOak is not a therapist, medical provider, financial advisor, legal counsel, or emergency service. Your Companion may offer thoughts and perspectives, but these are not professional advice. For medical, legal, or financial decisions, consult a qualified professional.

You must be 18 years or older to use GreatOak. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement. We reserve the right to terminate accounts if we discover a user is under 18.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Do not share your login information. You are responsible for all activity under your account.

GreatOak is a safe-for-work (SFW) platform. The following are prohibited:

• Sexually explicit content or requests
• Content that promotes violence, self-harm, or harm to others
• Harassment, hate speech, or discrimination
• Illegal activity of any kind
• Attempts to manipulate your Companion into violating these guidelines

Acceptable Use

GreatOak is built for private, personal conversation. Private does not mean anything goes. You may not use GreatOak or your Companion to:

• create, request, share, or help distribute child sexual abuse material or any sexual content involving a minor;
• plan or carry out serious illegal activity, violence, stalking, fraud, credential theft, or harmful cyber activity;
• threaten, harass, dox, impersonate, or target another person for abuse;
• create or send spam, scams, unsolicited bulk messages, or content that violates the rules of a connected messaging platform;
• create deceptive voice recordings, clone a person's voice without permission, or pass generated audio off as a real recording;
• bypass safety rules, break into GreatOak systems, expose private data, or interfere with another customer's Companion; or
• use a skill, attachment, website, or other tool to do something that would be prohibited if you asked your Companion directly.

Your Companion may refuse a request that crosses these lines. A refusal is not, by itself, an account penalty.

We may warn you, pause your Companion, limit a feature, or close your account when we reasonably believe these rules were broken. We may act immediately when there is a serious safety, legal, security, or platform risk. We may preserve and report information when the law requires it, including reports involving apparent child sexual exploitation. Where the law allows, we will use the least amount of information needed.

If you believe we made a mistake, contact support@greatoak.ai and we will review the decision.

Your Companion is not an emergency service. If you or someone else may be in immediate danger, call local emergency services now. In the United States, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Outside the United States, contact your local crisis service.

GreatOak uses a credit system for usage:

• Subscription: Your monthly subscription includes a base credit allotment and covers the infrastructure that keeps your Companion running.
• Additional credits: You can purchase additional credits in any amount from $5 to $500 at any time through your dashboard.
• What credits cover: Every message, voice interaction, and memory operation uses credits. The amount varies by the type of interaction.
• When credits run out: Your Companion will let you know when credits are low and will pause conversations when credits reach zero. Add more credits to resume instantly.
• No refunds on consumed credits. Unused credits purchased as add-ons are non-refundable after 14 days.
• Full credit rules (types, auto-refill authorization, expiration, transfers) are in our Supplemental Credit Terms, which form part of these Terms.

Cancellation

You can cancel your subscription at any time through your dashboard or Stripe Customer Portal.

• Your Companion remains available for 30 days after cancellation.
• Any remaining credits stay usable during this 30-day window.
• After 30 days, your Companion goes offline and remaining credits expire.
• Your conversation data is retained for 30 days after your Companion goes offline, then permanently deleted unless you request earlier deletion.

You own your conversations. The things you tell your Companion are yours.

• We do not sell your data. Ever.
• We do not share your conversations with third parties.
• We do not use your conversations to train foundation AI models.
• Your Companion's memories are used solely to improve your personal experience.

GreatOak uses third-party services to operate:

• AI providers (Anthropic, Google, OpenAI) process your messages to generate responses. These providers have their own privacy policies and do not retain your conversation data beyond processing.
• Stripe handles all payments. We never see or store your credit card information.
• Hetzner Cloud hosts your Companion's server. Your data is encrypted at rest.
• ElevenLabs processes voice messages when voice features are enabled.

We work hard to keep your Companion available 24/7, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Maintenance, updates, and unforeseen issues may cause temporary downtime. We are not liable for any losses resulting from service interruptions.

• GreatOak owns the platform, software, and technology.
• You own the content of your conversations and any data you provide.
• You grant GreatOak a limited license to process your data solely for the purpose of providing the service.

GreatOak is provided “as is.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, GreatOak and its operators are not liable for:

• Decisions made based on your Companion's responses
• Emotional distress or reliance on your Companion
• Data loss due to unforeseen circumstances (we maintain backups but cannot guarantee against all loss)
• Third-party service failures

Our total liability is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding any claim.

We may suspend or terminate your account if:

• You violate these Terms or our content policy
• You engage in activity that threatens the security of the platform
• You are under 18 years of age
• Payment repeatedly fails

You may delete your account at any time through your dashboard. Account deletion triggers complete data removal within 30 days.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or through the platform. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Pinellas County, Florida.
